The validation of the desktop file is a must
(http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Packaging:Guidelines#Desktop_files)
Your file is almost valid, except for
'value "X-Thumbnailer" for key "Type" in group "Desktop Entry" is not a
registered type value'

The standard
(http://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html)
says about this key "To allow the addition of new types in the future,
implementations should ignore desktop entries with an unknown type."

So, perhaps your desktop file is valid and we have a bug of desktop-file-utils
In any case, what's the purpose of the file? It is really needed?
