This is basically a way for system-config-repo to identify  a package providing
meta information on the repo.

Because one point is to turn the repo into searchable "application" in the
gnome-software sense, requiring icons, .desktop file and a reasonable GUI
action

Yes, but new GL allows plain /etc and /usr. I fiond it clearar, but no big

Neither, more of  howto. However, I have pending packages for both situations.

Updated links later this weekend. The important thing in this (for me) is that
you don't seem to have any objections on the very idea to package this repo (?)
