There are plans to provide a second package with the newer drivers; 
people are working on it, but it takes some time.

BTW, the reasons why we didn't update to 177.80 in F8 and F9 is really 
simple: Nvidia dropped support for older cards (the GeForce 5 series 
iirc) in the 177 serries. Hence we'd break all systems that have the 
driver installed and those cards in it if we'd put the 177.80 drivers 
into the repos. That is something a lot of people won#t like ;-)
