Well at least the full featured plan was to Obsoletes/Provides
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia and nvidia-kmod in F-9 to
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-173xx and the related kmod-nvidia-173xx. and then
introduce xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-newest along with
xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-beta if needed.
That way, users that will upgrade from F-9 to F-10 will revert back
from xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-newest to xorg-x11-drv-nvidia which will be
177.80 by default on F-10 (whereas 173.14.12 on F-9). users of 173xx
will then follow the 173xx branch, and if it will be possible for them
to use 177.80, that will requires manual uninstall/re-install of the
right nvidia drivers.
Now I remember that the problem raised by Thorsten was about the
Obsoltes/Provides of the kmod.
The current plan to have this problem solved is to introduce the
parallele scheme. But that's not ready and QA yet.
Anyway we can still introduce the xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-newest in the
old scheme with 177.80 and F-9.
That's definitely needed specially for KDE users that will have
specifics fixes, I don't think we can wait until F-10 for theses
features.
For the 71xx serie rename, the same problem appear, but i really think
we should avoid the legacy name and switch to the new name
without waiting for the new 71xx driver...
