Hi guys,

I have finally finished my LCD patched packages which provides "clear-type like" experience for Fedora Users.
Please have a look at https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=547
I need a sponsor as I am a new there.

To describe myself :

I am 24 years Linux IT administrator, freelance developer (I already have 3 commercially attractive projects) . I am open source enthusiast, working with Fedora since FC6 .
I am working for very well known company which develops application management software. I am preparing Linux RPM packages for our products there.

Thanks,

David

Subject: how to add a packages to rpmfusion: cairo, libXft, freetype
To: rpmfusion-users@lists.rpmfusion.org

Hi,

long time ago I promised to create packages suitable for rpmfusion for following :

Request: freetype (with patches to support subpixel rendering and bytecode interpreter)
Summary: A free and portable font rendering engine
 URL: http://www.freetype.org
Why not in Fedora: Patent issues regarding cleartype filtering and bytecode interpreter
Notes: this package should be part of a logical group of other patched packages supporting better subpixel rendering in Fedora, to bring up the font rendering to the level of Ubuntu, Windows XP/Vista and MacOS/X. These packages are: cairo, freetype, fontconfig, libXft (and maybe pixman, this should be checked). Source packages already exist with patches supporting these features for all the above packages at: ftp://brebs.me.uk/fedora/10/. Further info: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/archive/index.php/t-186789.html

Request: cairo (with patches to support cleartype filtering)
 Summary: A vector graphics library
 URL: http://cairographics.org
Why not in Fedora: Patent issues regarding cleartype filtering
Notes: this package should be part of a logical group of other patched packages supporting better subpixel rendering in Fedora, to bring up the font rendering to the level of Ubuntu, Windows XP/Vista and MacOS/X. These packages are: cairo, freetype, fontconfig, libXft (and maybe pixman, this should be checked). Source packages already exist with patches supporting these features for all the above packages at: ftp://brebs.me.uk/fedora/10/. Request: libXft (with cleartype filtering patches)
Summary: X.Org X11 libXft runtime library
 URL: http://www.x.org
Why not in Fedora: Patent issues regarding cleartype filtering
Notes: this package should be part of a logical group of other patched packages supporting better subpixel rendering in Fedora, to bring up the font rendering to the level of Ubuntu, Windows XP/Vista and MacOS/X. These packages are: cairo, freetype, fontconfig, libXft (and maybe pixman, this should be checked). I would like to implement them the same way as freetype-freeworld is implemented (by owerriding library in ld.so.config).
Those packages will come from original fedora cairo, libXft,freetype packages and will be patched with LCD filter patch , named afterwards as freetype-freeworld, cairo-freeworld, libXft-freeworld. So we can catch the Ubuntu and have the nice fonts afterwards :).

I am using those packages on my own, have them prepared (not overriding libraries now) for fedora 10 and it looks awesome.

How should I proceed with this, to be sure, that my effort invested to development this packages will by payed by including those packages to rpmfusion-nonfree repository (and writing short howto on rpmfusion.org wiki) to make people aware of that.

Thanks,

David Hlacik
