I've reported these issues to libvdpau-va-gl author. He said the following
(translation):
libvdpau gets the driver name from X-server or VDPAU_DRIVER
variable.
Otherwise it considers that driver is nvidia. The Gallium3D drivers
are able to report their names correctly, but libvdpau-va-gl is not.
So the only way to switch it on is setting the VDPAU_DRIVER=va_gl variable.
He
suggests to place this variable into Xsessions.
