I was unsure whether to post this feature request on the bugzilla
or here, and since I found no feature request queue; here it is.
In F11 (and previous), dm-raid works great on a great number
of controllers, also the highpoint 1820 controller that my wife has.
However it does not work if you have a raid5 array that you want
to use. She just converted to Linux from Windows and wants to have
access to her data. I have tried to compile the kernel module myself,
but I am at a total loss as to how to achieve this without rolling a
complete custom kernel.
So, I want to request this kernel module in the hopes that someone
will want to make a package for it and maintain the package.
The module itself seems well maintained by redhat and resides here:
http://people.redhat.com/~heinzm/sw/dm/dm-raid45/
I ask here because the fedora people have said in no uncertain terms
that they do not want to include it until it is in upstream.
See:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498544 (among others)
On the other hand, RHEL/Centos seems to have the module included.
But that doesnt really help a whole lot.
This package would make it possible for dmraid to support raid4/5 on
most low-end/onboard controllers supported by dmraid today afaict.
Sincerly
