The upstream replied. They are not planning an update for the near future.
Hence the obsolete img_convert() function will remain in their source for a
while.
I will set this bug CLOSED and will keep it so until I learn ffmpeg API or
someone writes a patch.
(The upstream told me that they are open to any patches.)
