On a general view on the interaction problem between kdenlive and
mlt,
you might consider to backport the support for mlt 0.7x to the current
kdenlive, if possible.
Or even to package a snapshoot version if its easier.
I tried looking through mlt's bug tracker but didn't see anything that
jumped out at me implying the problem was fixed but the bug
descriptions were highly technical in nature.
