We need them in F-8/F-9 too. that's because of the upgrade path needed when
F-8/F-9 users will have to upgrade to F-10. We cannot just leave the users
crash their Xorg, with a "broken by design" upgrade path.
Once that said, I agree that there is a problem with Obsoletes/Provides of
kmod/akmod, specially as even if the old kmod/akmod get properly uninstalled
(with only Obsoltes/Provides on xorg-x11-drv-nvidia), the appropriate module
(either akmod/kmod-nvidia-173xx-PAE) would not be installed in the "not common
case". (I expect kmod-nvidia-173xx to be installed because of shortest name
rule).
This problem will need to be fixed before the packages hit the stable
repository (if ever it does). But having the F-8/F-9 branches would allow to
experiments potentials solutions there.
