But, because of bug in the vlc-core there is a need for a fix which introduce an ABI break. (ABI got broken by one patch between 0.9.9 in Rawhide and 0.9.8a in F9/F10). I may consider to backport this patch along with 0.9.9 wich will comes in few days. Using 1.0.0.90 would be the development version of 1.0.1. But I've not received a special agreement on this point. So using 1.0.0-0.1 or 1.0.0-0.90.1 would be fine until an official versioned snapshot is done along with 1.0.0 release of vlc. Having it chmoded is the right thing then. That was decided by the upstream maintainer, I've made it notice that change. But it is more intended to be imported from python. I don't like at all this dirty hack : echo "include COPYING" >> MANIFEST.in Packager including a license is totally wrong, you don't have right to do that. If you want a source archive to bundle a license, you can send a patch upstream asking to do that. But you are not allowed to do that yourself. What is mandatory according to the license Guideline is to have a "License:" Field from within the spec file, not for the package to bundle a license, specially if it's clear enough. I could quote you a case (fedora ralink's firmware) where despite the redistribution agreement was attached to the bug, the package was not allowed until Ralink added the Licence to the firmware tarball. About vlc-1.0.0. I would prefer to have the python-vlc only for the version currently in F-11. It could be possible to introduce it once F-10 is updated from 0.9.9 to 1.0.0 that may appears later, the reason behind is that the 0.9.x branch was aimed to prepare the 1.0.x one.
