Re: [CentOS] Status of RPMFusion repo for CentOS 5 and 6 ?

Well, I just gave RPMFusion a spin on EL5, and I'd say it's more or less
unusable.
# yum install mplayer
...
Error: Missing Dependency: libcaca.so.0 is needed by package
mplayer-1.0-0.101.20080903svn.el5.1.i386 (rpmfusion-free-updates)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
# yum install ffmpeg

ffmpeg-libs-0.4.9-0.52.20080908.el5.i386 (rpmfusion-free-updates)

I have some CentOS 5.x clients on some very old hardware, and I'd like
to keep them running 5.x until it's EOL next year.
Guess I'll just roll my own package repo in the meantime.
Cheers,
Niki

Is RPMFusion still maintained?
by Nicolas Kovacs
Hi,
I'm an Austrian sysadmin living in South France. I have to maintain (and
eventually beef up) desktop clients in public
libraries running CentOS 5 and 6. The hardware is still OK, though
sometimes really old, so the least evil will be to keep CentOS 5 on the
old machines until that version is EOL.
I've been using CentOS 5 as my main system somewhere between 2007 and
2009. At the time the RPMForge was my favorite third-party repository,
though I understand that project is dead. I'm looking for a clean and
viable solution to replace this. Here's what I intend to do.
1. Configure the base, updates and extra repos with a priority of 1.
2. Configure EPEL with a priority of 10.
3. Configure RPMFusion with a priority of 10.
Now I don't know about the status of RPMFusion. Is this third-party repo
still maintained? I wonder, since the home page only gives information
about RHEL/CentOS 5 and 6. From what I understand, it's healthy to mix
it with an EL+EPEL base.
I'm planning to add some basic (and somewhat extended) multimedia
capability to those desktop clients, so packages like mplayer, ffmpeg,
lame and the likes will come in handy. For eventually missing packages
(like eventually an old version of VLC for reading DVDs), I'll just grab
the SRPMS from the old RPMForge repo and setup my own repo after
building them locally.
Any suggestions?
Niki Kovacs
PS: message initially sent to the CentOS mailing list. I saw afterwards
that RPMFusion has its own mailing list, so I copied it over and
modified it somewhat.

Mythtv 0.28
by Richard Shaw
I am building packages to upgrade my personal MythTV FE/BE machine to test
this week. If all goes well I plan to initiate builds on RPM Fusion early
next week. The infrastructure upgrades are still going on so things might
be a little slow so bare with me.
Thanks,
Richard

MOC - aac stream, format not supported
by A M
Hello
When I try to play an internet radio stream in aac format with MOC I get
the error message "Format not supported".
MOC should be able to handle aac streams, this user reports that it
works for him:
http://crunchbang.org/forums/viewtopic.php?pid=424012#p424012
I've also tested playing some aac-audio local files, no problem - worked
fine.
Downloaded from here:
http://download.wavetlan.com/SVV/Media/HTTP/http-aac.htm
The audio streams which I've encountered the error for are SomaFM:s
radio channels, for example this:
https://somafm.com/silent/
https://somafm.com/silent130.pls
I asked around a bit on the #fedora irc-channel about this and some
thought that the build/packaging of moc looked a bit fishy. The file
/usr/lib64/moc/decoder_plugins/libaac_decoder.so is currently missing,
is that correct?
I think that another potential issue was that faad2 (unsure about exact
name) was missing from the spec file. Unfortunately I cannot provide you
exact information since I don't really know a lot about the rpm-system.
Any thoughts on this? Playing local files went well but there's some
problem with streams...

Hello,
just to inform you what solved my problem:
clementine 1.3.x needs gstreamer1-plugins-ugly from rpmfusion-free-updates-testing
to handle mp3 files.
Thanks to all who gave me hints.
