Well, I do not want to kill your enthusiasm in kicking out a package in the
interest of providing another package with the similar or the same
functionality but... it is like jumping from one extreme end to the other.

The mpg321 package has been proving its functionality over years, it is
maintained by the Debian folks (e.g. no maintenance cost except an update once
a year or so). And it is substantially smaller when the space matters.
It does not interfere. I have provided the solution to distribute both packages
for the benefit of the end user.
I would not remove it from the distribution unless it could not be built or it
would contain serious security or functional bugs.

But my vote is not a casting one, the final decision depends on you, packagers.
