You should compare your freetype-lcd specfile with the freetype-freeworld one.
What I see:
* missing Provides: freetype-bytecode and Provides: freetype-subpixel (see
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=155210 )
* missing memcpy-fix patch
* missing enable-valid patch (not sure if that one is needed here though)
* missing "umask 0022"
* unneeded multilib snippet - that header isn't being installed anyway
* missing licenses as %doc files (docs/LICENSE.TXT, docs/FTL.TXT and
docs/GPL.TXT)

There's also that 99-DejaVu-autohinter-only.conf in freetype-freeworld, but
maybe that one should be dropped anyway. DejaVu upstream wants the BCI used for
their fonts, the problem is that it changes the font weight and that not all
characters are hinted (or at least that was the case last I checked).

I'm the current freetype-freeworld maintainer. I'm willing to let you take over
maintainership of freetype-freeworld. I don't even use it myself.
