I can't reproduce this (built fine in fedora-devel-i386 for me) and don't have
x86_64. If this still happens, could you please replace "./configure" with
"bash -x ./configure" and attach the log here?

I think this is a good idea and have implemented it (the size of the packed
source is 312K vs. 6.5M uncompressed).
