in other words you made a kernel update, so vmware needs as always build
the modules agianst the current kernel

so are kernel-devel and kernel-headers installed?
what happens when you call vmware as root from a teminal?

most likely the vmware module traballs need patches as so often in the
past to build against a 4.6 kernel - just use google and the next time
don't force a dist-upgrade just because you can when you relie on
commercial software

here you you and the next it fails replace "4.6" with your current
kernel: https://www.google.com/search?q=vmware+kernel+modules+linux+4.6
