mplayer and vlc errors in F25 and rawhide (F26) after friday and saturday's updates

I'm not sure what this means for radeon.  Do you mean I should use the
closed source catalyst driver?  I'm not even sure how to do that.  And
it seems to me that X is broken if it requires using a different driver
than the linux kernel provides for the hardware.

I see there is a package
xorg-x11-drv-ati-7.7.1-1.20160928git3fc839ff.fc25.x86_64. I wonder if
the problem I'm seeing was introduced with changes there?

I could probably test if this is X related by getting all the previous
xorg packages from koji and downgrading to the previous version of X.
Do you think this was introduced by the change in X?  i.e.  in your
opinion, is there a pretty good chance that downgrading would fix the
problem?
