I made that same switch.  When I did, I had some trouble I still don't completely understand, but at the end a complete uninstall and re-install so that the following file in place seemed to solve my problems:

/etc/ld.so.conf.d/nvidia-lib64.conf

It seems to me that you might check the output of ldconfig -v and make sure that the nvidia (GL for example) libraries appear before the openGL libraries in .../lib64.
