Seeking nvidia legacy maintainers for 390xx/340xx series
by Nicolas Chauvet
Hi,
Just to inform that with the 396+ nvidia release, the support for
fermi GPU will be dropped.
If you have such GPU, the current workaround will be to use the 340xx
serie or to switch to nouveau.
NVIDIA plans to maintain the 390xx serie for few time, so this can be
added as a new package.
I've started to work on the packaging (1) , but it requires more time
and work that Leigh or me can offer (for free).
So anyone to volunteer to maintain the 390xx driver (same for 340xx serie).
Thx in advance.
(btw, we plan to move to 396+ to stable in the coming days).

Fix console text (resolution/alignment) - F30, 340xx driver
by Sergio Cipolla
Hello and thank you.
This is an old desktop with Geforce 8600GT and a 17" lcd monitor. fedora 30 installed from minimal with xorg and Xfce.
I have installed the nvidia driver from rpmfusion but in trying to fix the console resolution and the text being off the screen limits I eventually messed things and re-installed.
At first, I installed grub to a partition and since I hadn't enabled the Boot Loader Specs in it, it confused me. Now after re-installing I'm back using nouveau and have understood the way grub works.
The proprietary driver works much better so I want to use it. The problem is that the 340xx driver package from rpmfusion sets
'GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text'
and this makes the console almost unusable as it sets a 800x600 resolution and text is off screen (like e.g., I would need to hit enter two times just for the cursor to appear).
Why is that setting? Isn't it possible to use the default resolution in the console (currently 1280x1024, but even 1024x768, with proper text alignment, would do)?
I don't care about plymouth but need to be able to use the console. Can I trust that after installation I can revert 'GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text' to some sensible resolution (even if set with ‘GRUB_GFXMODE’)?
The 'text' setting is just some pre-emptive measure or is it really needed?
Thank you very much.

Disabling the NVIDIA GPU
by Mert Alp Taytak
Dear all,
A more detailed and long history of my problem can be found in: https://ask.fedoraproject.org/t/silverblue-switching-between-nvidia-and-i...
Short version is that even though no NVIDIA related driver is loaded in my system, my dGPU is still powered on. I am running Silverblue 30 on a Dell Inspiron 7567 laptop with a 1050 Ti graphics card. Highest priority for me is to be able to completely power off the dGPU. Preferably, I would like to have the ability to switch to the dGPU again with proprietary NVIDIA drivers (system is unusable with nouveau) even if it may require some work each time. But I believe there is no support for that at the moment, so it is a low priority.
Best regards,
Mert Alp Taytak
