yumex not yum
use yumex as it has a great search facility, this then allows you to
identify the driver and install either from yumex or from dnf as per
your own preference.

$ rpm -qa | grep nvidia
kmod-nvidia-4.5.7-300.fc24.x86_64-358.16-2.fc24.x86_64
kmod-nvidia-4.5.6-200.fc23.x86_64-358.16-2.fc24.x86_64

yum? Not dnf? Sorry, I don't follow what's happening here?
Found the old fix, was akmods --force, but fails now with
akmods line 147 ulimit core file size cannot modify limit: invalid arg.
checking kmods for 4.5.7-300.fc24.x86_64 [OK]
Follow that with the reboot and I'm back at "Oh no, something has gone
wrong" screen.
