No one else has reported seeing this so I pursued it a bit further,
referring to a post on the KDE list by Rex Dieter a few months ago.
Alt/f2 brought up the 'runner' box; /usr/bin/plasmashell had no apparent
effect. dmesg showed a kernel bug report. I don't have the details.
dbg /usr/bin/plasmashell required a monster download-and-install, which
initially failed because of a qt5-related file conflict, resolved (?) by
rpm -e --nodeps. Then the dbg command ran, with no output shown. I
didn't go on with it and rebooted to 4.11.12-200, to get a persistent
error-report box which reappeared, with no useful details, after every
attempt to submit a report or close it. In other respects things seemed
normal.
I don't expect to be using, or near the keyboard of, that box for some
days - but something does seem wrong... - and Harald's views are known
to me.
