I was told to update owners.list to fix a mismatch of my email address
with bugzilla. However when I try to commit I get an error message:
$ cvs commit -m "fix my email so bugzilla and owners.list are in
sync" owners.list
Group gmail is undefined at /cvs/free/CVSROOT/acls line 87, <AVAIL> line 564.
Group gmail is undefined at /cvs/free/CVSROOT/acls line 87, <AVAIL> line 565.
Group gmail is undefined at /cvs/free/CVSROOT/acls line 87, <AVAIL> line 566.
**** Access denied: cwickert is not in ACL for owners
cvs commit: Pre-commit check failed
cvs [commit aborted]: correct above errors first!
What is going wrong here? Where are the first 3 lines coming from?

A week has passed without anyone other than Hans getting back to me.
Everyone else on vacation? ;)
The owners.list files in cvs are protected by acls. Only a few people
can change them. An artificial bottleneck.

Even worse: I was moving, so I was swamped in work. Additionally your
message was trapped in the SPAM folder.
The owners.list files in cvs are protected by acls. Only a few
people
can change them. An artificial bottleneck.
Changing the email in FAS doesn't work ether, see

As Michael said, you aren't expected to have access to it.
But you can send him the diff once the you email from fas and bugzilla match
I can't commit to the files either (don't even have an account), and
it's not one of my duties to fix the files regularly.
As why the package maintainers aren't permitted to touch the owners.list
files, dunno. Fedora Extras has had writable owners.list files, and except
for the occasional typos, no probs.

should be able to commit".

This means I cannot send him the diff because I cannot change my email
in FAS due to a bug already mentioned in this thread. All I can do is to
change my email in owners.list and this is impossible due to ACLs.
Michael can't do this ether.
I suggest ether *you* do it or give packagers sufficient privileges to
do it themselves. I think the latter should be preferred in order to
avoid further bottlenecks.
