possible AWOL
by Julian Sikorski
Hi,
I'm moving to Switzerland today. It can take a while before I organise
an internet connection, so if there are any bugs in my packages and I
don't respond after a reasonable time, feel free to fix them.

Repos for F12 should be ready
by Thorsten Leemhuis
Hi!
I created the final repos for F12, the release rpms for them and did the
first pushes. Everything seems to be sane at this point -- if not let me
know soon, as now it's still easy to fix things in the final repos.
The buildsys and cvs are not yet fully adjusted/branched for F12. I did
a lot of preparation work for the builders(¹), but there iirc are some
things Xavier does in CVS to prepare for a new release that only he
knows about.
CU
knurd
(¹) I still don't want to do that sort of work, but I guess preparing
it myself was the fasted way to make sure things mostly went smooth for
everybody

nvidia-config-display misbehavior
by Neal Becker
Since nvidia driver is currently not working well with my system, I wanted to
give nouveau another try. I edited xorg.conf, changing from nvidia to
nouveau, then did nvidia-config-display disable. Then telinit 3, telinit 5.
Surprise! No X.
After investigating, I found that every time I run telinit, nvidia script will
_rewrite xorg.conf_!
Imagine my surprise. nvidia-config-display disable doesn't actually disable
nvidia. The only reliable way to disable (temporarily) is rename the kernel
module. (I don't want to yum remove nvidia stuff, last thing I need to is have
to have a working network connection to restore it)
Why would anyone want to type 'nvidia-config-display disable', only to have it
magically re-enable itself?

RPM Fusion free and nonfree repositories for Fedora 12 (Constantine) now available
by Thorsten Leemhuis
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
The RPM Fusion team is proud to announce the public availability of our ''free'' and ''nonfree'' package repositories for Fedora 12 (Constantine). The repositories contain multimedia applications, kernel drivers, games and other software the Fedora Project doesn't want to ship for various reasons.
RPM Fusion repositories give Fedora 12 the ability to play all kinds of audio and video formats -- including, but not limited to MP3s or video files in MPEG or Xvid formats.
You can browse the repository contents for the ix86 (sometimes also called x86, i386, i686 or x86-32) architecture via these URLs
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/releases/12/Everything/i386/os...
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/releases/12/Everything/i386...
Note that x86-64, ppc and ppc64 are supported by RPM Fusion as well.
To make RPM Fusion repositories available on a freshly installed Fedora 12 system run the following command:
{{{
su -c 'rpm -ivh \
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.... \
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-s...'
}}}
(Reminder: You need to cut'n'paste all three lines)
More details and a GUI based way how to configure and use RPM Fusion can be found in our wiki at
http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
You can also enable RPM Fusion while installing Fedora 12 -- details and some screenshots that should give you an idea how everything works can be found at
http://rpmfusion.org/EnablingRpmFusionDuringFedoraInstall
Please note that the graphics drivers from AMD are not available in the repositories right now as they are not compatible with the X-Server that is used in Fedora 12. Note that the Nvidia drivers are available via the updates-testing repos only at this time as they require some manual steps to make them work; see the howto for details:
http://rpmfusion.org/Howto/nVidia
There is still a lot of room for a whole lot of improvements in RPM Fusion. If you want to help then join us! Our mailing lists can be found at
http://lists.rpmfusion.org/mailman/listinfo
Thanks for you interest in RPM Fusion.

== More details ==
=== Reminder for the folks that plan to yum-update to Fedora 12 ===
If you have RPM Fusion packages installed on your system already and plan to live-update to Fedora 12 using yum then please leave the RPM Fusion repositories enabled for the big "yum update" run. Only then you'll get all the updated packages from RPM Fusion as well, which is important, as their dependencies get fulfilled by the Fedora 12 packages. That's not the case for the old packages that are on your system right now -- those in fact have dependencies on the packages from the Fedora release you are about to update, which will lead to a lot of trouble.
=== Examples to get the most important bits from RPM Fusion ===
Once you installed the release rpm you can install software using the graphical software installation tools which are part of Fedora. As root-user you can also use yum on a command line to install packages; for example:
~ * PackageKit will normally install all codecs on demand for GNOME and KDE apps that use gstreamer as backend; if you want to get them manually ahead of tine run this command as root:
{{{
yum install gstreamer-ffmpeg gstreamer-plugins-bad \ gstreamer-plugins-ugly
}}}
~ * if you want to use mplayer, run one ofthe following commands
{{{
# yum install mplayer-gui
# yum install gnome-mplayer
}}}
~ * if you prefer VLC, run
{{{
# yum install vlc
}}}
~ * want to PGP sign or encrypt your mails using thunderbird? Then run:
{{{
# yum install thunderbird-enigmail
}}}

HandBrake in rpmfusion? (continued from bug #69)
by Justin
First, relevant info:
Bug report:
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=679
IRC convo w/ HandBrake devs:
http://handbrake.fr/irclogs/handbrake/handbrake20091115_pg2.html
Summary (from my understanding):
1. Fedora/RPMfusion doesn't bundle libraries with programs.
2. HandBrake uses customized versions of a lot of libraries, which they bundle.
3.In trying to get it packaged Bernard Johnson (0x100 in the IRC
convo) was trying to reach a compromise where he used system libraries
where possible, leaving bundled libs only where necessary.
4. HandBrake devs either wants all bundled libraries included or for
it to not be in the distros repo.
Current choices are:
1. Package it with all bundled libs (against policy)
2. Package it the way we want because we can
3. Don't package it
My 2c:
HandBrake is popular, so seeing it in the repos is a good thing (tm).
HandBrake devs are being unreasonable and, honestly, downright rude
and aggressive. So, whether that ends up being option one or two, we
should do it the way we think is best and they can deal.
If we're feeling extra nice we could add a note about it being
unofficial and unsupported by the HandBrake team, maybe even with a
pointer to their version.

Packages in F12 repositories signed with the F11 key
by Mary Ellen Foster
Hi! I just installed F12 (from the RC disk) on a new computer, and
discovered that there seem to be packages in the F12 rpmfusion
repositories that are signed with the F11 signing key. The specific
one that I noticed was livna-config-display, which refused to install
until I downloaded and "rpm --import"ed the GPG key for F11. Is this a
known issue?
There do seem to be a lot of packages with "fc11" in their name; the
following command counted 207 packages...
yum --disablerepo=* --enablerepo=rpmfusion-* list available | grep
fc11 | grep -v debuginfo | wc -l
Thanks,
MEF

Should preupgrade with rpmfusion work?

When f12 release is official, should preupgrade work, including rpmfusion
(assuming I have enough space in /boot)? I already tried it, and it failed
due to rpmfusion dependencies.

RPM Fusion PPC Build System broken?
by Andrea Musuruane
Hi got this error, trying to build e-uae for devel.
BTW, Bug #870 would still prevent me to build it for devel/x86_64 anyway.
Is it possible to do something?
Thanks!
Andrea.
