--- Comment #6 from Michael Schwendt <mschwendt(a)gmail.com> 2011-09-25 18:58:23 ---
I haven't nuked the libsidplay1 based plugin, because gstreamer-plugins-ugly
and ocp still build with libsidplay1, too. Good/accurate enough for multiple
thousands of sids.
[...]
There's a technical reason why libsidplay2 should be preferred. Version 3 of
the PSID file format is not understood by libsidplay1, because its emulation is
not cycle-based and therefore cannot handle the file contents. Though, there
are still users who are not happy with the "more capable" emulation of
libsidplay2+reSID, because it isn't "better" for all sids. It is better as
a
default, because it supports all sids including recent releases in PSIDv3
format.
[...]
Conflicts vs. Obsoletes : I agree. If there is no policy that disallows the
Obsoletes, it would make sense to add it instead of a Conflicts. IMO, safest
would be:
Obsoletes: audacious-plugins-sid <= %{version}
Then audacious-plugins-sid only becomes available during the short window when
its version is bumped and the -nonfree plugin is bumped later.
