FFmpeg has a 3 month release schedule, but upstream developers are
quite accommodating to keeping one of the older branches alive if
you ask politely and explain why. It's best to start at the newest
possible, obviously.

FWIW - I'm focusing on mplayer deps as that's my main use from rpmfusion.
Let me know if you need any help. I'm not interested in being a
full-time maintainer of MPlayer in el7 (or el6), but I'll help
whenever I can.
