I'm working on getting a good build for F15/rawhide. I've made quite a bit of
progress but not quite there.
I've added 3 patches to:
- Fix gcc 4.6 errors[1]
- Fix a possible crash[2]
- Fix x264 compile issues. I found a Gentoo patch[3] and fixed it up
as at first it would not apply.
Still got a few more "taking address of a temporary" errors. Hopefully
the avidemux developer will create a patch for it soon.
One thing the developer mentioned over at the avidemux forums was that the
version of x264 was to old.
The current version seems to be a git snapshot from July 2010. Is there a newer
snapshot that's known to be good?

the other file, it can be fixed the exact same way. (The broken

Nonsense. It's actually too new for Avidemux 2.5.4 (which is a 5 months old
release). If the upstream developer had even looked at their own patch, he'd
have easily realized this. In fact, that "Gentoo" patch comes from
upstream's SVN repository and adds support for current versions of xvidcore.
The current version seems to be a git snapshot from July 2010.
That's the version in the F14 repo, which is old enough for Avidemux 2.5.4
to build without patching. In the F15/Rawhide repo, there's a 20110227
snapshot which requires the Avidemux backport.

Yeah, nobody told me that before I accepted the package :)
I'm pretty sure little has changed for avidemux on that page but the
dates are mostly from 2009. Of course js can now be taken off the
list. But that was easy since the cmake option already existed. The
rest will be more difficult I think.
FFmpeg would be the most difficult, if even possible, to do since it
appears to be heavily patched from the source.
I think I'll go after libass and/or liba52 next but it may require me
learning a lot more about cmake than I know today.

Sorry, I thought you were copied on the bug last time I updated it.
The patch looks simple enough but I am trying to understand what
exactly it does before applying it.

You're problem doesn't look the same...
As I mentioned (at least last time I tried it) AAC encoding with
ffmpeg worked for me, but that was on x86_64, so perhaps it's an arch
difference?

The ADM_assert(0) is what gets triggered. Apparently, you don't have a valid
compression mode set for whatever reason. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar
enough with Avidemux's code to figure out why.
