That's the other way, (as XvMC) .
A vdpau capable player (mythtv xine-ui mplayer XBMC, etc) need to link to
vdpau and a vdpau enabled ffmpeg (see #531 ). that's the open source (free)
side of things. (hence , totally possible for us to redistribute).
Now for any end users to use the vdpau output, there is a need for capable
hardware (GeForce >= 8xxx) and the related "binary only" driver. that can be
installed at runtime. this vdpau wrapper library will then dlopen the vdpau
backend library. (again, same as XvMC)
There is a very close relation beetween the vdpau wrapper library (this package
review), that provides a given vdpau API, and the API that the binary driver
support.
Now, despite XvMC, vdpau doesn't have a free implementation. So any fedora
reviewer could say it has failed the usability test... So this is all a matter
of decision...
At least it could exist a vdpau opensource implementation...
