Hello,
this mailing list post is a continuation of the discussion in:
https://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=4703
There is now a wiki page with links to the AppStream metadata packages to allow regular
users to install RPM Fusion packages via GUI, however there are still some issues:
1. The AppStream metadata download links on the wiki page
(
https://rpmfusion.org/Appstream-data) are direct links to the repository and are not
automatically updated. If a new version is released for some of the AppStream packages,
the old link does not work anymore. (Right now, download links for Fedora 26 and the non
free download link for Rawhide returns 404.) I think a better approach would be to copy
the AppStream metadata to another directory; they do not need to be the latest version
because they are updated after being manually installed.
2. There is now only a brief "We have one wiki page dedicated only to appstream-data
installation" text on the Configuration page (
https://rpmfusion.org/Configuration),
that is not a much helpful for regular users. I think there should be some more
information about AppStream metadata directly on the Configuration page. For example
something like "RPMFusion repositories also provide Appstream metadata to enable
users to install packages using Gnome Software/KDE Discover. For more information and
download links, click [[https://rpmfusion.org/Appstream-data|here]].".
It would be great if these issues could be resolved. I am personally not able to do this
because I don't have an account on the wiki and I am getting an "Unknown action
newaccount." error when trying to register one. Also, the Configuration page is
protected.
Thanks.
Regards,
Daniel
