OpenAFS and Static Libraries

Folks,
I have two quandaries about my OpenAFS packages. Both of which are a
bit problematic when trying to conform to the Fedora Packaging
Guidelines.
OpenAFS has a slew of static libraries that are part of upstream's
packages and used for just about anything that uses OpenAFS's C API,
such as the perl-AFS modules.
I've removed them from my packages here in rpmFusion because shipping
static libraries is against the Fedora package guidelines. Turns out
this is preventing a lot of stuff we have from being able to build in
our RHEL 6 and Fedora 14 environments.
Consulting

it looks like the proper thing to do is include these static libraries in
the -devel sub-package and have that sub-package provide openafs-static.
Secondly, many more experienced AFS administrators prefer the old
Transarc style paths over the FHS paths that my packages use. I would
like to create an openafs-transarc sub-package that includes the
symlinks that would enable these non-standard paths. (Specifically,
/usr/afs and /usr/vice.)
The first issue with the static libs really needs to happen. The second
issue is just pure annoyance but will make these packages more usable to
certain folks. I'd like to do both. Are there any comments or reason
why I should not?

My defences:
* http://ccxvii.net/gargoyle/ is certainly a valid URL, not sure what's going
on
* I'm using my own packaged version of the source code than just an URL because
the official source package contains some code under licenses which are not
Fedora-compliant. See below for background information.
* For some reason, it only complains about the explicit dependency on
liberation-mono-fonts but not linux-libertine-fonts. I'm including both because
these are the fonts the interpreter uses (can be changed via a config file); if
they are not present, the interpreter aborts.
* If I don't list smpeg-libs as an explicit dependency, a mock build fails
because of -lsmpeg
* I don't know why rpmbuild fails to strip libgarglk.so. It does manage to
strip all the executables in the package.
Since this is my first package (Fedora or RPM Fusion), I require a sponsor.
Some further background: Gargoyle (http://ccxvii.net/gargoyle/) bundles
interpreters for several interactive fiction story file formats, including
Z-code, TADS and others. It uses the same subpixel text rendering presentation
for all of these; it does not expose the UI for any of the bundled
interpreters, but only the interpreter core. It's been around for a few years
and is very popular in the Interactive Fiction community. It's already in
several other distros: http://code.google.com/p/garglk/wiki/Packages
The bundled interpreters have a variety of licenses. A couple don't have
Fedora-approved licenses, so these had to be left out even from the SRPM. The
license situation may change in the future, so they may be included in a future
version.

Proposing OpenNI NITE middleware for inclusion to RPMfusion. It is unacceptable
for Fedora because it contains binary-only, proprietary software by PrimeSense,
which they distribute free of charge. A license key is distributed on their
website at

Therefore from my understanding we can redistribute that package and get

help wanted - make install options in dvbcut - cant get it to use the proper rpm paths

I'm unable to get my package dvbcut to build it's RPM under F14. The
compile succeeds (and the executable runs OK, but the make install
stumbles when it tries to write directly to my /usr/... directory:

One thing that has changed recently is addition of .desktop and icon
files into the upstream svn repo. It seems that now it tries to install
these, it shows up a bug in the original configure/make setup:

I don't understand the multi-layered configure/make process, so any tips
(or even clear online info pointers) would be good.

Push F-13 Testing OpenAFS Packages Please

Folks,
The 1.4.14 openafs packages in teh F-13 tree are currently broken. The
1.4.14 userland packages have been pushed to the updates tree, but not the
kmod-openafs packages. They are still in the testing tree.
Can someone push the kmod-openafs packages in updates-testing to updates
for F13?

All services has been back online except Jarod's builder which's
having hardware issue (hard-drive) and led him to stop plague on his server.
Please, wait untill we announce the end of this outage to request new jobs
on build system.
