Upgrading EL7 with a newer ffmpeg
by Nicolas Chauvet
Hi there,
With the update gstreamer packages to 1.10.4 (that was due in RHEL 7.4
already), the gstreamer1-libav package has bumped the requirement to
ffmpeg 3.X. So we are currently in a in-between state.
There is also a need to a newer ffmpeg with vlc 3.x that I consider
upgrading EL7 to (current vlc 2.2.x version is unmaintained, even
debian stable updated from 2.2.x to 3.x because of that).
We might give an opportunity to update x264/x265 too and eventually
refresh some dependencies here.
My plans would be to update to either ffmpeg 3.3x or 3.4.x (the latest
from the 3.x branch). there is already a compat-ffmpeg28 package ready
to ease the transition.
There isn't a terribly high number of el7 packages that depends on
ffmpeg fortunately (or not).
And it's a shame because EL7 has way more users than any Fedora
releases together (according to epel stats (2)).
So I really would like some volunteer to take a deeper look at what we
can support here.
Thx

Fwd: Upgrading EL7 with a newer ffmpeg
by Antonio Trande
All packages are built fine on local, test them yourself.
Only the tvheadend/dtv-scan-tables issue is pending.

EL8 branch created in pkgdb - please request your packages
by Nicolas Chauvet
Hi there,
With RHEL8 beta 1 published, we can start working early on EL8 support.
Please request a branch in pkgdb for your package if you plan to
maintain an el8 branch.
https://admin.rpmfusion.org/pkgdb/packages/
In the next days (if not today), I will work on having koji el8 targets.
For now It will only be possible to build packages that do not rely on
EPEL-8. We will hook epel-8 as soon as anything is published.
The plan is to have a first push with RPM Fusion packages in the next
week or two.
If you don't plan to work on EL-8 support it's fine, please mention it
there, so we can start finding an epel maintainer.
As a side note, it would be nice if provenpackager own the package
they care most in pkgdb if not done already (and drop packages they
don't if relevant). Please have a look at pkgdb.
New maintainers can also request ACLS using pkgdb.
Thx

Plans regarding EL 8
by Nux!
Hello,
Now that RHEL 8 Beta is out it makes me wonder whether RPMFusion will give more attention and resources to EL? There's tons of users who need it.
It'd be nice if users got their much needed packages from a nice collaborative project such as this instead of one man shows such as my repo.
What are your plans?
Cheers,
Lucian

Re: Upgrading EL7 with a newer ffmpeg
by Antonio
I prepared a SRPM for RPMFusion that provides latest 'dtv-scan-tables'
files; 'dvb-format-convert' is compiled inside of it for converting all
needed files only.
@Nicolas
Is this solution acceptable for getting all tvheaded's dependencies content?
