rawhide buildroots broken
by Hans de Goede
Hi All,
I've tried to build a new version of vice, but it is failing due to
the rawhide buildroots being broken.
If someone can take a look at this, that would be great.
Regards,
Hans

Updating EL-7 multimedia libraries
by Nicolas Chauvet
Hi there,
This question was raised in a ticket, but would have been better
raised in this mailing list for a better audience.
I'm asking for opportunity to update at least the
ffmpeg/x264/x265/live555/vlc, etc on EL7.
It's questionable whether to keep "deep stable" libraries or to switch
to newer ones on "deep stable" distros. Some EL users dislike newer
versions and prefer known good (but secure) releases.
On the others side, some others EL users rely on "deep stable" distros
for most components, but when it comes to some (multimedia)
activities, prefers newer components.
(EL users that want newer components everywhere are fools and should
better use Fedora).
It seems hard to satisfy both sides at the same time. But at least
something is possible.
For example, we could introduce a new branch called el7-next that will
relies on newer version of some components. most packages should be
rebuilt for el7-next and superseed the one in the related el7
branches.
I've not much time theses day for working on this on the infra side
(not until July at least). But maybe it's already possible to collect
ideas.
Also it should be possible for someone to test build an updated stack.
I would suggest the following:
ffmpeg-3.3x (this version doesn't have the vdpau/vaapi breakage as
found in ffmpeg-3.4 that may prevent some application to build).
x264/x265/live555 current
gsteamer1 needs EL7 matching libraries.
The other way is probably to look at modularity, software collections
or even copr dedicated repos...
Any idea ?
