Kodi 18 and Fedora 32+
by Michael Cronenworth
Hi all,
With the Fedora 32 release only a few days away I would like to share some info
about Kodi 18.
As you may already be aware Kodi 18 officially supports Python 2.7. Kodi 19 will
support Python 3. Fedora 32 is deprecating Python 2 in a big way. While a barebones
python27 package is still shipped support for it has stopped and libraries are being
removed.[1] Python is used mainly with Kodi add-ons so if you do not use add-ons
this will not affect you.
The Kodi development timeline does not line up with Fedora releases as Kodi 19 may
be months away from a general release and Fedora 32 is coming out in two days. I
have shipped Kodi 18 in RPMFusion with patches to support Python 3.
Unfortunately, add-on support for Python 3 is extremely lacking. Most likely your
add-ons will not work because of how behind add-on developers were with their code.
There is an effort to update add-ons, but the process is very slow.[2]
There is also a crasher bug exhibited on exiting Kodi that I am in the middle of
debugging (Python 3 related) and I will push a package update as soon as I can fix it.
Apologies for the poor user experience, but I was afraid of this anyway and I am not
too surprised at the current state.
Regards,
Michael

github interaction
by Nicolas Chauvet
Hi there,
It seems like only a few of us that have github account are receiving
github notifications from PR that are submitted via github. This has
to be fixed. So please mention here if you have a github account that
is not part of the packager team in github organization.
For your info ticket tracker are disabled on purpose not to duplicate
our bugzilla.
Also the usual process is to merge commit into our SCM (pkgs) that is
automatically mirrored to github. (this is no back and forth sync) so
PR on github are disabled by ACL to prevent any bypass.
Thanks for rising any question if relevant.

This application provides display and control of Android devices connected on
USB (or over TCP/IP). It does not require any root access.
This application uses ffmpeg which is not in official fedora repos since so it
cannot be placed in fedora repos. Also it has a sever part that should be build
by gradle which needs Android SDK. It is placed as a scrcpy-server.jar in the
package. I talked with upstream and asked them to find a way to build it
without needing to Android SDK.
Output of "rpmlint scrcpy-1.10-1.fc31.src.rpm":

Output of"rpmlint scrcpy.spec"

This is my first RPM Fusion package. I want to contribute more to fedora and I
am seeking a sponsor. I appreciate any advice that make my package better and
increase my knowledge.

[Bug 5598] New: Review request: rar2fs

rar2fs is a FUSE based file system that can mount a source RAR archive/volume
or a directory containing any number of RAR archives and read the contents as
regular files on-the-fly. Non-archived files located in the source directory
are handled transparently. Both compressed and non-compressed
archives/volumes are supported but full media seek support (aka. indexing) is
only available for non-compressed plaintext archives. In general support for
compressed and/or encrypted archives is "best effort", highly depending on
what type of information the archive contains and by what method it is
accessed.
Encrypted archives are supported but since rar2fs is completely
non-interactive it requires the archive password to be stored on the local
file system in a file in plaintext format. This of course is a major security
limitation in itself. If you really need to use this feature, use it wisely.
The author(s) of rar2fs will not be held responsible for encrypted
information being exposed due to this limitation. If security is really an
issue some encryption on file system level should be considered instead.
A FUSE based encryption file system, such as encfs, has proven to work very
well together with rar2fs.
https://hasse69.github.io/rar2fs/
https://github.com/hasse69/rar2fs/releases/download/v1.29.0/rar2fs-1.29.0...
I am advised this should be in RPMFusion non-free.
I am not the developer of this, and not able to review in terms of
security/privacy etc. I am aware this has been included in some other major
distributions repos
Thanks for the consideration!

Description:
PCSX2 is a free and open-source PlayStation 2 (PS2) emulator. Its purpose is to
emulate the PS2's hardware, using a combination of MIPS CPU Interpreters,
Recompilers and a Virtual Machine which manages hardware states and PS2 system
memory. This allows you to play PS2 games on your PC, with many additional
features and benefits.
The PCSX2 project has been running for more than ten years. Past versions could
only run a few public domain game demos, but newer versions can run many games
at full speed, including popular titles such as Final Fantasy X and Devil May
Cry 3. Visit the PCSX2 homepage to check the latest compatibility status of
games (with more than 2000 titles tested), or ask for help in the official
forums.
Fedora Account System Username: atim
Some notes:
* This new version from master works really well and i hope there is no issue
with license/patents.
* BIOS not included here and PCSX2 clearly says at first start that user MUST
use only their own BIOS.
* PCSX2 available on official Debian repos.
