I need to build my akmod for EL-5. Will there be a port of akmods stuff to
EL-5?
I tried rebuild srpms, got as far as:
rpmbuild --rebuild --target i686 buildsys-build-rpmfusion-9.1-10.lvn9.src.rpm

Yes, the plan is to have akmods i n EL-5 as well. But it's untested as
of now, so there might be some problems; shouldn't be to hard to get
those fixed supported, but my focus is a bit more on "get RPM Fusion
running for Fedora" right now, that's why I haven't worked on it yet.
Is there a sense in having akmod for EL?
Definitely: alternative kernels, e.g. self-compiled or pre-compiled from
3rd party repos.

blcr-kmod says:

No the EL kernel is API stable, not ABI stable. Kernel modules always
have a strict dependency on the exact kernel they were compiled against,
and RHEL does push kernel updates regularly (although not as frequently

No the EL kernel is API stable, not ABI stable. Kernel modules always
have a strict dependency on the exact kernel they were compiled against,
and RHEL does push kernel updates regularly (although not as frequently
as Fedora).

3rd-party kernel modules use symbols not on the whitelist, and thus not
guaranteed stable, but it *is* entirely possible to build a kernel
module against the RHEL5 GA kernel and have it load and run fine on the
latest 5.3 development kernel, if it only uses whitelisted symbols.

And the plan is to use those whitelisted set of symbols in kmods for

As mentioned, you need to tell it the kernel version you actually want
to build for, but on top of that, the kernel-uname-r Provides: don't
exist in the RHEL5 kernel, only in recent Fedora kernels, so some tweaks
are needed there as well.
