hugin and software patents
by Michel Alexandre Salim
Hugin is the featured article of the week at LWN, and Fedora is
specifically mentioned, in that our package is crippled (thanks a
bunch, software patent laws!).

Would there be interest in packaging a full version for RPMfusion, and
if so, would it be in -free or -nonfree? If the Fedora packager is not
an RPMfusion contributor yet, I believe the process is almost
automatic?
I'd be willing to review the package if it's submitted.

bsnes 0.051+
by Julian Sikorski
Hi,
as of 0.051, bsnes is now GPL. This is not the only change, however. It
also now requires an additional library [1] to support compressed ROM
images. The problem is that this library seems (at the first glance)
contain mostly duplicated code from rar, 7-zip and friends, albeit
modified. I have no skills nor time to try patching it up to use
system-wide libs, so I have no idea how to proceed. For now, I have
requested the latest bsnes build not to be pushed to stable, but it is
of course only temporary.
I have attached a preliminary spec file, which gets the job done. The
thing is whether we are willing to accept such a chunk of (at least
partially) duplicated code to save the ability of bsnes to use
compressed ROM images.
Cheers,
Julian

How to move on with infrastructure?
by Thorsten Leemhuis
Hi!
Some of you might be aware of it, other not, but we afaics have a
(whole) lot of medium-sized and small problems in the infrastructure
area(¹). The main ones from the top of my head:
- our infrastructure team basically consists of just one person: Xavier
Lamien (laxathom/SmootherFrOgZ)
- multiple people offered to help in the past (²), but not even one of
those people found its way into the project/the infrastructure team:
Why? It can't continue like that, as that is a route to fail...
- it sometimes take a lot of time until cvs requests are done
- we have a x86-64 builder that isn't used since a few weeks (months?)
- we afaik were asked to migrate to a different ppc builder but that
work stalled
- using koji and bodhi for RPM Fusion is something that people are
asking for every few weeks
- there are multiple small problems (often not in bugzilla) that are
annoying, but not pressing (no automatic rebuilds, no repoclosure
scripts, repodata regeneration after push, incomplete delta-rpm support
are some of them, out-of-diskspace situations, some builders use mock
caching while others do not, rawhide out of date on of of the builders, ...)
So how to we fix all of the above to make sure RPM Fusion gets more
healthy over time?
Cu
knurd
(¹) With "infrastructure area" I mean the system we utilize (buildsys
and stuff), the services running there and the people that take care of
them; rel-eng is a different issue (there are also lot's of problems
that need to be fixed, but that's IMHO a topic for another mail once we
solved the infra are)
(²) for example

but there were a lot more offers

lisas.de builder temporarily disabled
by Adrian Reber
Due to the ubuntu release I have to shut down my builder VM temporarily
as my mirror server is always under heavy load during the release of a
distribution. I will enable it again in a few days.

[Bug 751] New: Review request: vboxgtk - A simple GTK frontend for VirtualBox
by RPM Fusion Bugzilla
http://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/show_bug.cgi?id=751
Summary: Review request: vboxgtk - A simple GTK frontend for
VirtualBox
Product: Package Reviews
Version: Current
Platform: All
OS/Version: GNU/Linux
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P5
Component: Review Request
AssignedTo: rpmfusion-package-review(a)rpmfusion.org
ReportedBy: hicham.haouari(a)gmail.com
CC: rpmfusion-package-review(a)rpmfusion.org
Blocks: 2
Estimated Hours: 0.0
Spec URL: http://hicham.fedorapeople.org/vboxgtk.spec
SRPM URL: http://hicham.fedorapeople.org/vboxgtk-0.5.0-1.fc11.src.rpm
Description:
A simple GTK frontend for VirtualBox.
Most of VirtualBox features are not supported, and those that are will probably
fail.
This package is not eligible in Fedora because it depends on VirtualBox-OSE
which is in rpmfusion.
rpmlint output for spec and srpm : none
rpmlint for binary rpm:
vboxgtk.i586: E: devel-dependency VirtualBox-OSE-devel
vboxgtk.i586: E: no-binary
1 packages and 0 specfiles checked; 2 errors, 0 warnings.
-vboxgtk uses VirtualBox python API, and thus requires VirtualBox-OSE-devel
-the package is python based so there is no binary
This is my first rpmfusion package
